Brain tumors can affect anyone, and at any time, without cause or warning. We found this out in October 2009 when Kate Rose was diagnosed with a Pineal Gland tumor. Tumors in this region of the brain are extremely rare, accounting for less than 1% of all brain tumors. After months of researching and finding out very little, it became apparent that there is a lack of funding for the needed research into the causes and cures of brain tumors. Out of this realization, Walk for Kate was born.
Walk for Kate was founded in June 2010 as a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to finding a cure for brain tumors. Our goals include advancing community awareness and raising funds through walking (and running for those more adventurous among us) to further brain tumor research. Most everyone can walk for a cause, and it is a great way to get in shape, have a lot of fun, and bring much needed attention to brain tumors. Walk for Kate strides to do all of the above, as well as provide funding to both local and national organizations.
Although we are just getting started, we have big ambitions. We believe that by working and walking together, we can make a big difference in the lives of brain tumor patients, their families, and their caregivers. We hope you will join us in the fight against this disease; together, we can walk all over brain tumors.
